Newspaper Unknown Front end loader overturns, killing Lachine man at quarry A Lachine man died Monday afternoon in a heavy equipment accident at a quarry off Long Lake Avenue operated by Glawe Inc., according to company and official sources. A brief statement issued this morning by the company identified him as James KARR. It said Karr was fatally injured at 1:50 p.m. County Medical Examiner Dr. James GREENWOOD said KARR died instantly when his head was crushed. He said KARR was backing a front end loader down an incline and the machine tipped to the left when the right wheels ran over some rocks. KARR reportedly got partially out of the cab when he was pinned under the machine. Sources at the Alpena County Sheriff's Department said deputies were called to the quarry to attempt to extract Karr from underneath the machine with the jaws of life. James Kenneth KARR, 30, of 11026 M-32, was born in Alpena June 24, 1956, and was a lifelong resident of the Lachine area. He and Patricia MARCINIAK were married Oct. 12, 1985, at Long Rapids. Mr. KARR was a self-employed in the forest products industry for the past eight years. He was temporarily employed as a heavy equipment operator with Glawe Inc. for the past three weeks. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Amanda at home; his mother, Joyce KARR of Long Rapids; two brothers, Thomas of Rogers City and John of Lachine; and two sisters, Julie (Mrs. Darrell) RENAUD of Novi and Janice FRANCISCO of Long Rapids. Friends may call at Bannan Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Wednesday. At noon on Friday, his body will be taken to First Assembly of God Church from 1 p.m. until funeral service at 2 that afternoon.
